The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) follows a disgraced journalist and a brilliant, antisocial computer hacker hired to investigate the decades-old disappearance of an heiress from a wealthy industrialist family. What begins as a cold-case mystery unravels into a harrowing serial-killer investigation rooted in the family’s darkest secrets. David Fincher’s English-language adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s novel is icy, brutal, and meticulously crafted, layering investigative procedural with psychological horror and a searing portrait of violence against women. Rooney Mara’s Lisbeth Salander is feral and magnetic.
